A Liberal senator wants to use the power of Parliament to force women into the boardrooms of the nation.
Sen. Celine Hervieux-Payette, a former Montreal business executive, is behind Bill S-206. The bill would require all publicly traded companies, banks, insurance companies and trust companies to have 50% of their board of directors made up of women.
Ummm out of date much Celine honey? Let me fill you in on a wee secret shall I? We don't need your type of affirmative action that only screams "females are too dumb or too weak or too whatever to get ahead in this country" and it's all those eeeeevil men's fault.
Cause you know what? Most of us just don't swallow it any more. We have lived a real life and know that career paths more often then not are restrained by...CHOICES.....that we, the women out having a real life, make every day. Are there places that are unfair to women? I am sure there are, but what makes you think I or any other self respecting female would be interested in wasting our talents on those a-holes? I don't want to work for anyone that doesn't think I am the next best thing to come down the pipe instead of being the someone that was shoved down their pipe hole. Got it Celine?
I also have issue with these "holier then thou, let me bestow this upon the little people from on high" parasites that cherry pick their human rights like they are hors d'oeuvres.
Celine you seem to exemplify a tunnelled vision hypocrite type of fem bot, Please listen up honey. You want equal rights in this country? How about cleaning up your own backyard? How about working to stop the out right discrimination of the English women in my fine home province Quebec? How about you step out of your box and think of your ENGLISH sisters in Quebec who are lucky to get a house cleaning job if they can't pass your "stupid, designed to be impossible standard to pass" french test that folks with french sounding names never have to take. Those women that can not educate their children in the language of their choice?

Anyway it makes me grind my teeth because first off, if say there are only 10% women on a particular board at the moment, what if not even enough qualified women apply for the positions to bring it up to 50%? And then of course there is the bad blood for men working hard to get there, only to be tossed aside by a much less qualified woman just because she is female.
Yes there are still businesses around who favor men over women, just like there are businesses that favor women over men. I know parents who said if we ever hired a man to work at the daycare I am employed at, they would remove their children! There is discrimination on both sides, but forcing new regulations on everyone is not the way to go. What if a board has mostly women, do they have to also run around and drum up some more men? When does it stop?

Of course there are businesses dominated by women.Mary Kay cosmetics is an example. Elementary school are mostly rum by women( whom most do NOT have children). Almost all the lower grades have no males in them, our class rooms and supervision have been almost completely neutered.
The protection racket is female dominated except for the odd male and of course their board of directors also reflect that reality.
I resent old school feminists telling me what a raw deal we, our daughters are getting when it simply is not truth or norm anymore.
Ugh I just think about the women who fought so hard to get their rightful place decades ago - THEY are the ones who knew what it was really like to live in a 'mans world'. I just happened to catch a history clip tonight on Emily Murphy from Alberta who managed to climb to the top as a magistrate in the early 1900s but when thinking about going for the Senate, she discovered she could not because a woman was not a 'person' under the written law. It took 10 years for a few women to fight this with Canada and Britain and get the wording changed so that under law, women were 'persons'. They fought hard, and rightfully so.
But a great deal of the 'feminists' today are going bonkers and creating a chasm for all of us to fall into. I want to get a job based on merit, not what kind of innards I have. In the past, qualified women were always overlooked but they fought hard and gave future women a chance. Now we have that chance and while there are a few out there who will not hire women for particular jobs, they are few and far between. The rest that try to be fair and look only at credentials should not be forced to comply with such ridiculous standards.
To me it's like the women in our past fought to blur the lines between men and women, but today the new ones are forcing that line to become clear again. It makes no sense to me at all. And I resent them for thinking they are speaking for all women.

People are supposed to be people, it is in the best interests of some groups to not let that stand. Divide the people into enough insignificant groups to a point where everyone has a SIDE to protect and viola the populace has been chopped so small that they are all meaningless and even worse powerless.
